What I do:
I write group Life and Disability Insurance contracts for OptumHealth Specialty Benefits. Once the case has been sold, I put together all of the appropriate filed contract language to create a compliant Certificate of Coverage that’s given to each insured employee of an employer.
Why my job is great:
I make it a point to have fun at work. I work with a great bunch of people and we learned a long time ago that we can agree to disagree and it doesn’t affect our working relationship. My team has many different personalities, and it’s been a good learning experience to be able to deal with each one of them.
The challenges of my job:
Because there are many operating platforms, it’s a real challenge to keep them straight and remember what’s done on each of them. Right now, I’m working with many others on the project to take our Life and Disability products that are currently done on one application and get all of the contract forms ready to put on another. This is work that in addition to the day-to-day work also needs to get done.
What makes this a greater place to work:
I like my job, what I do, and the people I interact with on a daily basis. I’ve developed some really good friendships here.
What’s great about me:
I take great pride in my willingness to help others. People are always surprised when I return a phone call or answer an e-mail so quickly. When I worked at my last job before coming to UnitedHealth Group, I was the “go-to” person when people had questions. Even if I didn’t know the answer, I usually knew who could answer their question or whom they should contact. Over the last four years, I’ve learned so much that I’ve once again become that “go-to” person for many people.
Words I live by:
Learn all of the ins and outs of your new job and then learn how your job interacts with the job/tasks of other tasks that happen before and after your task. Learn the complete process. It helps to make sense out your own job.
What I’d say to a potential candidate:
Have fun but take your job seriously.
